“Myself, my wife, and our entire family are truly blessed to be in animal agriculture, and to be part of the seedstock industry.”

— Ryan Topp

Most importantly, this family gets to work in a breed as rich in history as any in the beef industry: Hereford. The days are long and the work is demanding, but doing it alongside family, in a breed they believe brings as much to the industry as any other, makes it worth it.

A Breed With History.
A Family That Lives It.

The nation's cow herd was built on Hereford cattle, a fact no one can argue with. Hereford cattle look different today than they did in the 1930s and '40s, but the mission hasn't changed: add pounds and efficiency to the next calf crop without losing sight of structural integrity, longevity, and maternal instinct.

A founder's vision built this operation from the ground up, and that vision has now been passed to the next generation, who are entrusted to put their own spin on the program and keep pushing it forward. That program is proven coast to coast, shipped and tested from Canada to Texas, Georgia to the West Coast, and it's kept sharp by culling hard: the bottom 15% of the cowherd is cut every year to vet out poor genetics and weak pedigrees.

This year's offering includes more embryo transfer calves than ever, giving buyers a more consistent product, and in many cases, a more affordable path to strong genetics than in years past.

"When we go to breed cows, they've got two ways out of the chute. They either have to be great, or they're a cull."
— Logan Topp, Seedstock Manager, May Herd

We Listen First

Rather than pushing a product on producers, the team starts by finding out what commercial clients, feedlots, and packers actually need. That feedback loop shapes every genetic decision the program makes.

"I think the role of a seedstock provider is to simply listen to your clientele."
— Ryan Topp

More Than an Animal

Buying a Topp Herefords bull means buying into more than genetics. It means marketing opportunities, feeder contracts, guarantees, and a risk-management plan built around the animal.

That same philosophy, that a sale should come with more than a gavel, is why this sale is being marketed through LiveAg.

A Crew Like No Other

The team is treated like family, not just employees, and it shows in how people talk about the work.

"That's the main thing, to be part of a crew that nobody else can describe. It's an amazing team. That's the best part of my job."
— Jannes De Wet, Crop & Nutrition Manager
"They care about my family, not just me. They truly care about every aspect of who we are as people, not just as their employees."
— Megan Halvorson, Assistant Business Administrator

From a Year's Work to Sale Day

It's amazing to see what goes into a full year of work, and then get to sale day and see the bulls and cows stand as the product of it. Every customer should be proud of what they're investing in.

"We want to leave a lasting impression that we do the right thing. We work hard, we do right, and we take care of you, before you buy and long after."
— Jordan Stanton, Heifer Program Manager
